Research Topic

This week I had the opportunity to dive deep into one of the topics that has gained my interest during this school year. For the research simulation in this class I selected to focus on the topic, "Parenting styles impact on social-emotional development." In selecting a topic I was nervous because I was unsure if I would be able to find a variety of information on this topic. However, during this week I have found numerous articles that focus on this topic in there own way. I am excited to start my journey through this subject and hope that I can gain a more in depth knowledge of this topic, and possibly some strategies that may help me reach some of the students that initially pulled my interest to this subject.  I am interested to hear what my classmates may know regarding the correlations between parenting style and social- emotional development. What ways can I help these children as their teacher?

  2. Jo Ann: You selected an interesting topic, and I think it is very beneficial to learn how parenting styles affect socio emotional development of young children. What research design do you plan on using for your research simulation?

    1. Hey Jo Anne,

There are so many different parenting styles, some that maybe praised and others that may be frowned upon....but the bigger picture is that these families want the best for their children and they want them to learn. One way you can help your children is to simply be their constant...discipline them in love and praise them for their good deeds and always set a goal for them and encourage them to attain their own personal success.

  3. I think that parenting styles have a great effect on a child's socio -emotional development. Many times as teachers we try to get children to conform to our way of learning and developing because we think that it is best. We must not forget that parents are their first teachers. I believe if we make those connections with parents and truly try and walk in their shoes...we would be able to work better as a team in helping the children to learn. Great topic to research!
